Josh Emmett Targets Title Shot In 2024, Considers Rematches With Yair Rodríguez & Ilia Topuria After Brutal KO Win At UFC 296

Emmett looks to build off his knockout of the year contender to a title shot KYLE DIMOND

After suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in his career, Josh Emmett was in need of a big win at UFC 296 to come into 2024 rejuvenated.

Wins don't come much bigger than the knockout of the year contender that he produced against Bryce Mitchell in the first round to solidify his status as a top featherweight contender.

Emmett had come up short in his previous two outings where he faced Yair Rodríguez for the interim title at UFC 284 before Ilia Topuria secured the title shot with a dominant display against him in June.

With his ferocious one-punch knockout power that was once again in full display this past weekend, he's never too many wins away from a title shot and that's exactly what Emmett is looking to realise going into the new year.

Josh Emmett Outlines His Plans To Fight For The Title In 2024 By Taking The Most Efficient Route Possible

Now that he is back in the win column, the #6-ranked contender is looking around at his options for his first outing in 2024.

His losses to Rodríguez and Topuria are two fights that he hopes to get back in the near future but ultimately, the fastest route to the title is what appeals to him most.

Several high-stakes fights are already on the cards in the coming months for the featherweight division.

Whilst we wait to see how it all plays out at 145 pounds, Emmett told InsideFighting that the quickest path to the belt is what he is aiming for next time out.

"Timing is everything. Those are fights that I want back, I had the two biggest fights of my career and they just didn't go my way. I can't make excuses but I want those back, I'm back to do everything that got me to the show, I'm back to my wrestling, my Jiu-Jitsu whereas before I was just boxing and I had some things going on.
"I want those fights back so bad but I do think I'm maybe one fight away for fighting for the title, just depending on who they give me. That's why I'm saying I want my clearest path to the title, so you may as well give me the number one contender."
