Urijah Faber came back in a big way at UFC Sacramento, and he padded his bank account in what turned out to be the shortest night’s work of his professional career.
Faber came out of retirement and earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for a 46-second knockout of Ricky Simon in the co-main event. “The California Kid” put Simon on the floor with his trademark overhand right and then unloaded with punches and hammerfists until the bantamweight contest was halted.
It was one of four performance bonuses given out by the Las Vegas-based promotion on Saturday night.
In a featured featherweight contest, Josh Emmett took home a $50,000 check for a technical knockout victory against Mirsad Bektic. Emmett dropped his foe with a left jab, and then swarmed with punches on the ground to bring an end to the bout at the 4:25 mark of Round 1.
Elsewhere, Andre Fili made short work of Sheymon Moraes in a preliminary bantamweight scrap, earning a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus in the process. A right hook to the jaw dropped Moraes and Fili sealed his victory with a swarm of punches until the contest was halted at the 3:07 mark of the first stanza.
Finally, Jonathan Martinez earned the card’s final $50,000 “Performance of the Night” for a late knockout of Pingyuan Liu in a preliminary bantamweight affair. A vicious knee sent Liu to the canvas, and Martinez added one more strike on the ground for good measure, ending the bout 3:54 into the third frame.
