Josh Emmett will make the quick turnaround after his loss at UFC 284 to face the surging Ilia Topuria.
Update: On April 16th, it was announced that Emmett vs Topuria would be moved from June 17th to June 24th.
Former UFC interim featherweight title challenger Josh Emmett will collide with Ilia Topuria at a UFC event, which has been moved from June 17th to June 24th.
MMA journalist Álvaro Colmenero was the first to report the news of the Emmett vs. Topuria booking.
Emmett won't take much time off after falling to Yair Rodríguez for the interim featherweight title at UFC 284. Before the loss to Rodríguez, he won five straight, including decisions over Shane Burgos and Calvin Kattar.
Emmett has a chance to get right back in the title picture with a win. But, he'll face a tough test in the form of the undefeated Topuria.
Topuria is unbeaten through 13 fights, with recent finishes over Jai Herbert and Bryce Mitchell. A win over Emmett could put him in line for a possible title shot.
Topuria won his UFC debut in Oct. 2020, earning a unanimous decision win over Youssef Zalal. He went on to earn knockouts over the likes of Damon Jackson and Ryan Hall.
The Emmett vs. Topuria fight will headline the June 24th card, rather than the June 17th card, as reported by KOlmenero. The location of the event was also announced to now be Jacksonville, FL.
As of first publishing, there are only two other fights booked for the June 17th card. Flyweight Jimmy Flick will face Alessandro Costa, and flyweights Tereza Bledá and Gabriella Fernandes will round out the prelims.
